Tim Bergquist is a native Oregonian (with the web fingers to
prove it), born and raised in the Portland area. He graduated from
the University of Portland in May 1971 and promptly went into the
U.S. Air Force (USAF). Tim retired from the USAF as a Major in May
1991 after serving for 20 years in such fields as satellite
operations, computer programming and data analysis, teaching Air
Force ROTC, managing a 20 person research branch of a personnel
laboratory, and supervising mobility operations.
While in the service he earned three Master's degrees. Upon
retirement he and his family returned to Oregon where he began
doctoral studies at the University of Oregon, completing his PhD in
November 1996. During his time at NCU he helped create the
Information Systems (IS) Department and served as its first
Director from April 1999 to November 2001, responsible for all
computer, data, and voice systems on campus.
He was then the Director of Institutional Research and
Assessment from November 2001 to August 2007, responsible for all
assessment activities on campus as well as the collection,
analysis, and reporting of data, both internally and to external
reporting agencies. He is now chair of the Undergraduate Research
Committee, responsible for implementing an undergraduate research
program at NCU.
Tim helped create and acquire accreditation for the Computer and
Information Science (CIS) and Mathematics academic programs at NCU;
he was instrumental in creating the Master of Business
Administration (MBA) program in 1999 and now teaches two of the
sixteen classes. Tim teaches primarily statistics and operations
management courses, both in the daytime and evening business
programs, undergraduate and graduate. He is a member of five
professional organizations. Tim has supervised the thesis of over
25 MBA students, has assisted over 10 masters or doctoral students
with data analysis, has published or written over 15 articles and
manuals, and has presented at conferences or had published in
Proceedings over 40 papers.
He has been married to the same wonderful woman for almost 40
years; they have two grown sons, two great daughters-in-law,
and one beautiful grandson. His hobbies include collecting US
and UN stamps, and reading and collecting Superman comic books.
