Bloodborne Pathogens

Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) are pathogenic microorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to: hepatitis B and human Deficiency virus (HIV).

Prevention

  1. Avoid contact with potentially infectious human body fluids. Remember: if it is human, wet and it is not yours - do not touch it.
  2. Wear protective gloves when assisting someone in a situation where you could become exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens.
  3. Call the Physical Plant at 541-684-7273 and request a clean up for any spilled blood or fluids - they have been specially trained. Do not clean up BBP yourself.

Action Steps

  1. Call the physical plant for clean-up.
  2. Notify your supervisor
  3. Notify your building incident response coordinator.
