Remember that your first duty is to ensure the safety of
yourself and other.
Action Steps
- If indoors, stay there. Get under a desk or table or stand in a
corner or doorway. Stay away from windows, shelves, and heavy
equipment. Do not use elevators.
- If outdoors, get into an open area away from trees, buildings,
walls and downed power lines.
- If driving, pull over to the side of the road and stop. Avoid
overpasses and downed power lines. Stay inside your vehicle until
the shaking is over.
- If in a crowded place, do not rush for the doors. Move away
from shelves containing objects that could fall.
- After shocks subside, evacuate to a safe location away from
buildings, trees and downed electrical wires - Morse Event Center
parking lot or a grassy Quad area are best.
- Follow evacuation procedures.
- Call 541-517-5197 and/or 9-9-1-1.
- Do not return to a building until instructed by
a university official.
