Celebrating the English Bible: 400 years of the King James Version
2011 marks the 400 year anniversary of
publication of what bacame known as the
King James Version of the
Bible. Though largely supplanted today by newer translations
in English, the King James Version exercised a tremendous influence
on the English and later American Church, on English as a language,
and within English literature and culture.
In addition, 2011 marks the
centennial anniversary of NCU's own Rare Bible Collection which features many
early edition King James Bibles, including a 1613 edition.
In recognition of this monumental work, we are Celebrating
the English Bible and exploring the legacy of the King James
Bible and the history of English Bibles through a series of
activities including special topics courses for our students, Bible
displays, and public lectures.
Join us as we celebrate this seminal translation and
explore its enduring influence.
