ACE Day Celebrates Student Projects

Release Date: Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Northwest Christian University held its second spring Academic Creativity and Excellence (ACE) Day on April 28, 2010. This idea originated when an undergraduate research committee was formed late in 2007, led by Professor Tim Bergquist. This team wanted to come up with a way in which the students could present their best works and where the seniors could present their capstone projects. They also wanted to come up with ways to research the progress of our student's work and how to better assess them in years to come. ACE Day seemed the perfect fit.

The committee made an agreement with Dennis Lindsay, VPAA, granting them one full day to hold this event. On this day, all regularly scheduled classes are cancelled and students are encouraged to check out the work of their peers if they have not submitted something themselves. There is also a half day reserved for this event in December for the few students wanting to present something then.

In comparison with last year's ACE Day, there were a lot more posters. There were twenty-nine posters total-fourteen of them this year were of work done by underclassmen and fifteen of them were senior capstone posters. Last year there were only thirteen posters total. This year there were thirty-two capstone presentations in contrast with last year's eighteen. All around the participation and quality of the entries were a lot better than those of last years.

This event will happen again next year, and they are hoping that the number of people involved will continue to grow.
