Family Weekend Sees Record Attendance
Release Date: Sunday, October 25, 2009
With a record 37 families in attendance, the 2009 NCU Family
Weekend will go down as one of the most successful events in school
history. Each year in October, the university hosts a weekend in
which family members are invited to check out the campus while
spending time with their student. During this time the families are
welcome to sit in on their student's classes and invited to attend
the Friday Chapel service. In addition to experiencing what a
normal Friday looks like for their student, there are other events
put on for them that they are more than welcome to attend.
This year, on October 23-25, families could choose to play in a
flag football game, compete in a Beacon Family Challenge, and had
an opportunity to watch NCU's touring singing ensemble, Virtue,
perform. On this weekend there were also multiple home sporting
events, which gave them more of a chance to experience the school's
atmosphere first hand.
This weekend was coordinated by the Director of Student
Programs, Kirsten Madsen. "Family weekend was a lot of fun and we
had a great turnout of families, and our highest attendance ever,"
said Kirsten Madsen, Director of Student Programs and the
coordinator for Family Weekend. "One of the best additions to the
weekend was our Beacon Family Challenge, a scavenger hunt around
campus where families had to complete tasks their student may have
to do on an everyday basis. It was an exciting challenge, and we
had some great competition present. I would definitely love to
expand this event for next year. It's always great to meet our
student's families and welcome them into the NCU Family!!"
