African Children's Choir Visits NCU
Release Date: Saturday, April 11, 2009
On November 4th, the Northwest Christian University community
was blessed with a visit from the world renowned African Children's
Choir. Originally scheduled for a normal chapel service in the Ross
B. Evans Chapel, the event was moved to the larger Morse Event
Center on campus, due to a large turnout from NCU and the larger
community.
The group from the African Children's Choir ranged in age from
six to eleven years old and are on tour for about one year. They go
around performing at different venues for free and ask in the
middle of their routine for an offering. NCU was able to help them
raise $1500.00 during their short stay. This offering goes directly
toward the young children's education, to pay for all expenses,
from elementary school through college. There are currently 8,000
children involved in this program, some now on tour and some back
in Africa pursuing their education.
While in Eugene, the African Children's choir and their
chaperones had the opportunity to live on campus for a few days.
The gymnasium was where they slept and various classrooms were
utilized throughout the day so that they could complete their
school work and rehearse for their show. They also ate all of their
meals in the cafeteria, all thanks to various students who
selflessly donated a meal or two of their own from their weekly
food plans. Having the choir at the school and at meals was
exciting for the students and went over quite well with all those
who came to watch.
