NCU Announces Tuition Freeze for 2010-2011

Release Date: Wednesday, April 14, 2010

EUGENE, Ore.  - In a renewed commitment to affordability, Northwest Christian University announces that it will freeze tuition for all academic programs for the 2010-2011 academic year, while lowering tuition in the Master of Business Administration program.

The announcement by the University's Board of Trustees was fueled by the current economic climate and the increasing need for an affordable private education for students and their families.

NCU President David Wilson said, "In these challenging economic times, it is important that we go the extra mile and do everything we can as an institution to help students achieve their educational goals.  We recognize that students and their families are making many sacrifices in meeting those goals.  Our students are our livelihood -- they are why we exist.  So we want to help and this tuition freeze is one very significant way we can do that."

The tuition freeze, which was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees, applies to the graduate programs, the Professional Studies Program, and the traditional undergraduate program, and is just one piece of a larger puzzle of keeping a private education possible. The University currently awards nearly $2.7 million in institutional financial aid annually and during the 2009-2010 academic year, close to 95% of Northwest Christian's students enrolled in the traditional undergraduate program received some form of financial aid.

More than just a reaction to the economy, Northwest Christian is freezing tuition for the 2010-2011 academic year as a way to improve the educational experience for current and future students. Michael Fuller, Vice President for Student Development and Enrollment said, "NCU has experienced unprecedented enrollment growth over the past 4 years as we continue to grow in both our traditional undergraduate student daytime population and our evening adult programs.  That being said, we know that these are difficult financial times, so our commitment to keeping tuition as reasonable as possible is key to student success and the success of NCU."
