InterLibrary Loan (ILL) Policy

Interlibrary Loan Policy

InterLibrary Loan Form

The Kellenberger Library provides Interlibrary Loan services for books and periodical articles not owned by NCU or on the OPALL catalog.  NCU students, faculty, staff, and patrons may make interlibrary loan requests.  Generally interlibrary loans are free of charge.  However, if we are charged for items received, the charge is passed through to the borrower. If a borrowed item is lost or damaged the patron is responsible for all replacement costs or repairs.

Interlibrary Loan Rules:

  1. Students must be primarily NCU students, taking 7 or more hours from NCU.  Students whose primary course work is at another institution (i.e. U of O, LCC) must request materials through their own library interlibrary loan service.

  2. The borrower may request up to six books or articles at a time.

  3. Audio Visual materials generally are not available through interlibrary loan and cannot be ordered on a rush basis.

  4. Limits for total interlibrary loans per semester are as follows:

    • Undergraduate Students:  10 items at a time/unlimited total
    • Graduate Students:  12 items at a time/unlimited total
    • Faculty & Staff:  unlimited
    • Community patrons: 5 items at a time/20 items per semester

How to Request an Interlibrary Loan:

  1. Locate request forms at the Circulation Desk or on BeaconNet (login required) and submit.

  2. Fill out forms completely, including complete citation for material, source where citation was found, your name, telephone number, and date needed by.  Also indicate how much you are willing to pay per item if we cannot get the item free of charge. You may print the citation and hand it in with your name, phone number and the date you need it by filled out on the form. Date needed by is very important.  If libraries can't meet your need by date, they will not send the item.

  3. Leave the request form with the Circulation Staff at the Circulation Desk.

  4. Expect the item in one - two weeks depending on lending library location.  The library is on the Express Courier System, which expedites the turnaround time of participating libraries.

  5. See call slip loan policy for books not owned by NCU that are on the OPALL Catalog, if you are a NCU faculty, staff or student.
