How did you arrive at
Northwest Christian?
I was looking for a private
school in the Northwest with Christian values that offered a
music industry program.
What's the most surprising
thing about being here at Northwest Christian?
It has been extremely nice to be at
a Christian school that does not require me, but allows me to
choose to live out my convictions.
What is your favorite thing
about the students, faculty, and staff at Northwest
Christian?
The small classroom size makes for
much needed one-on-one time with my professors. This has
provided a very effective learning environment and is an invaluable
part of my educational experience at Northwest Christian.
Favorite Class to
attend/teach:
I love all my music classes!
My homework consists of "assignments" that I would normally do in
my spare time: song writing, worship leading, and recording demo
CDs, to name a few. I don't go to class with the normal
stress of "making the grade" looming over my head; when I show up,
I know I am going to apply what I have been learning. I have
no doubt that I am being prepared for the career in music business
that lies ahead of me.
Favorite thing about
Northwest Christian:
I love the location of the school;
with coffee shops, a quiet bench, or the inner city buzz all within
walking distance, I am able to take a break from the classroom
setting to catch up on reading or just take a break with
friends.
Research/Special
Projects:
As part of my junior project I have
been provided with the opportunity to network with all the
wonderful people involved in the local music industry scene.
Cindy Ingram, a local music industry mastermind has been working
with those of us completing our Junior project. We have had
the exciting opportunity to brainstorm, plan, and produce our very
own city wide event for the Eugene/Springfield youth groups.
Favorite Northwest
Christian Event/Tradition:
Those responsible for planning
events for the students body do a great job of providing fun and
creative events perfect for meeting fellow students and having a
great time. The outdoor movie was a great idea!
Advice for incoming
students:
You will get out of your education
only that which you put into it. Don't expect your professors
to hold your hand through you educational experience. Take
initiative and get the most out of your opportunity to learn.
Greatest accomplishment so
far:
I was selected to design the
Myspace page, poster, hand-bills, and T-shirts for our Junior
Project event, Spirit Showcase! Everyone liked the designs
and approved the use of them to promote our event. I have had
so much fun learning the proper steps to take to plan a city wide
event.
Where do you see yourself
in five years?
In five years I hope to be working
within the local music industry mentoring young artists of all
kinds. In addition I hope to be completing my personal
business plan that will launch me into my career as a music
business owner.
If a friend or relative was
considering Northwest Christian, and you had to describe the place
in a text message with only a few words, what would you honestly
say?
Learning environment…flexible and
effective!
Location…awesome!
Faculty and Staff…genuine and
helpful.
Reasons to go to school somewhere
else…NONE.
