Study Abroad

If you are considering a study abroad program and you are planning on using financial aid to pay for your expenses, you will need to fill out an application and follow the procedure outlined below to ensure your funding is in place.  Please note that only approved applicants will be able to use NCU financial aid for their study abroad, but all applicants will be eligible to use any Federal and State financial aid.

 PROCEDURE

1)      Complete the application above, and return it to the study abroad director.

2)      Contact your study abroad program for a schedule that lists the dates of your program, and for a bill that lists the total charges of your program.  If you will have additional expenses outside of the bill your program provides (ie. airfare that may not be included in the cost of your program), please also obtain documentation to verify these expenses.  Turn in all documentation to the Financial Aid Office.

3)      The Financial Aid Office will determine your budgeted cost of attendance for the term(s) of your study abroad.  The budget will be used to determine the maximum amount of financial aid that a student will qualify for (including loans).  Depending on the costs associated with a given program, this will be greater or less than the costs associated with a standard term at NCU.

4)      Once your budget and financial aid has been finalized, you will receive a Financial Aid Award that lists all of the financial aid that you qualify for.  If you are in need of additional funding, you will want to contact the Financial Aid Office to see what other opportunities may be available.

5)      Once you have had a chance to look over your Financial Aid Award, you will need to meet with the Billing Office to make any payment arrangements for any balance owing, or to make arrangements for receiving back a credit balance.

6)      The Billing Office will issue a check for your costs directly to your study abroad program, and will charge your NCU account the amount that was paid to your program.

7)      Your financial aid will then be applied to your NCU account.  If you have a balance remaining, you will need to continue making payments per your arrangement with the Billing Office.  If you will have a credit, the Billing Office will issue a refund to the student in the amount of the credit.
